Alumnae request for a Women’s Building, 1923

This letter, signed in 1923 by alumnae of UNC-Chapel Hill, is a formal request to the University Building Committee. The letter petitions for the construction of a Women’s Building on campus, as there were limited areas for women in student housing. The alumnae demanded that a space be built that would allow women within the Carolina student body to flourish. This request was honored in 1924, with the construction of Spencer Residence Hall, a dormitory for women, thus marking the first time that women could live on campus.
