Yackety Yack Chapel Hill, NC: University of North Carolina, 1907
This drawing of a female student appeared in the 1907 Yackety Yack, UNC’s yearbook, 10 years after the University began admitting women in 1897. The physical separation of the woman in the drawing from the rest of her male classmates signifies the isolating experience of being one of few women on campus, and raises questions about the equity of early coeducation at UNC.
