Chapel Hill, NC: Black Student Movement, November 22, 1977

Established in 1967, the Black Student Movement (BSM) aims to unite the Black student population at UNC by voicing concerns and grievances of its members to the University and by providing outlets for expressing Black ideals and culture. Every year, the BSM crowns Mr. and Miss BSM - they are individuals 'who epitomize leadership, scholarship, and service.' Pictured centerstage here in the BSM newspaper Black Ink is Miss BSM Sandra Banks, elected 1977.
