Chapel Hill, NC: University of North Carolina, 2003

Pictured here in 2003, Alpha Pi Omega is the first and oldest Native American sorority. It was founded on September 1, 1994 at UNC-Chapel Hill by four undergraduates known as the Four Winds: Jamie Goins (Lumbee), Shannon Brayboy (Lumbee), Christina Strickland (Lumbee), and Amy Locklear (Lumbee/Coharie). The sorority now has 12 undergraduate and 9 professional chapters across the country with over 800 sisters and 100 tribes represented.
