Know all men by these presents, that I James S. Smith of the County of Orange and town of Hillsborough in the State of North Carolina, hath this day bargained, sold, and delivered, and by these presents do bargain, sell, and deliver, to Mary R. Smith of the said County and State, a negro woman Harriet aged about twenty six years, and her boy child Julius aged about three years, and her daughter Cornelia aged about one year, for the consideration of five hundred and fifty dollars, to me in hand paid by the said Mary R. Smith at and before the singing, sealing, and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof I do hereby fully acknowledge.
And I further warrant the title to the said Harriet, Julius and Cornelia, three negroes to the said Mary R. Smith, her heirs, and assigns, against the claims of myself, heirs, or assigns, executors and administrators, and all manner of persons whatsoever.
Given under my hand and seal this twenty-fifth of August 1845.
