Know all men by these presents that I William Kell of the County of Orange in the State of North Carolina for and in consideration of four hundred and fifty dollars current money to me in hand by Dr. James S. Smith of the same county and state at and before these presents; have bargained and sold to the said James S. Smith a negro girl named Harriet, aged 15 years - & I further covenant to and with the said James S. Smith that I am lawfully and equitably of a good tithe to the said girl and of full power and authority to sell and dispose of the same, and that I warrant the girl to be sound and healthy and clear of any defect whatsoever or to her health – And I further warrant the title to the said girl to said James S. Smith his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns.
Given under my Lord and God the 30th September 1834

The execution of the deed was proved in open court by the oath of Joseph Allison who proves the death and handwriting of William H. Hall thereto whereupon it is ordered by the court that the same be registered. Signed J. Allison (seal)
