Georges Akoun (1927-2018)

Georges Akoun was born on February 17, 1927 in Algiers. He studied respiratory diseases in Paris and received his Doctorat en Médecine from the Université d’Alger in 1966.

Akoun was a professor at the Université de Paris VI, Faculté de Médecine Saint-Antoine, Pneumology department. He was particularly interested in respiratory diseases (including interstitial pneumonitis of immunologic origin). He was appointed the chief of the Paris hospitals pulmonary division in 1979.

Akoun was a member of the American College of Chest Physicians (1986). He has written a number of articles and books on respiratory diseases and edited “Les entretiens de Tenon” and “Collège de médecine des hôpitaux de Paris: pathologie interne.”
