It is my pleasure to inform you, confidentially, that The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, by vote of the Faculty and Trustees, desires to confer upon you the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at our Commencement on May 14, 1978. It is expected, of course, that recipients will be present at the Commencement exercises.
I am writing this brief note so that you may plan to be with us on the date mentioned. As soon as we hear from you, indicating your willingness to accept this honorary degree and to attend our Commencement, we will provide further details as to the arrangements for this occasion.
