Acknowledgments

This exhibit was created by Stephen Fletcher, Linda Jacobson, and Robert Schreiner, and is based on a physical exhibition on view from July 25 though December 22, 2022 in the Wilson Special Collections Library. The physical exhibition was curated by Biff Hollingsworth, Stephen Fletcher, Christian Edwards, and Linda Jacobson in collaboration with protests participants, eyewitnesses, and those who continue to organize for justice in Warren County.

We are endlessly grateful to our friends and collaborators Rev. William Kearney, Angelena Kearney-Dunlap, Jenny Labalme, Wayne Moseley, and Shauna Williams, who generously gave their time, labor, and wisdom to make this exhibit possible, and who trusted us with their memorabilia and the community’s stories by inviting us to work in solidarity with the Warren County Environmental Action Team during this 40th anniversary commemoration.

Many thanks go to our UNC Chapel Hill Library colleagues: the staff of the Digital Production Center, especially Jay Mangum; Rebecca Smyrl, Assistant Conservator for Special Collections; Nora Burmeister, Content Strategy Librarian, UNC Libraries User Experience; Aleah Howell, Multimedia and Visual Communications Specialist; and to our colleagues in Wilson Library’s Technical Services and Research & Instructional Services departments.

Thanks also go to Vann Evans and Ian Dunn at the State Archives of North Carolina for providing loans of photographs.
