“The Class of 2002 honors the University’s unsung founders, the people of color bond and free, who helped build the Carolina that we cherish today.”

Artist Do-Ho Suh envisioned a memorial where visitors would physically interact with the artwork. The piece is comprised of a marble slab helped up by more than 300 bronze sculptures, and 5 stone seats.

This memorial is the focus of disputes about its placement, its size, its interactivity, and its lack of additional contextualization.
